We are very happy to publish this special section on Foundation of Computer Science. This is the fifth section on this title. The main goal of this special section is to review and promote recent progress in the field of foundation of computer science. In this year, there were 16 papers submitted of high overall quality, out of which eight papers (including one letter) were selected for publication. Topics of the selected papers include graph algorithms, approximation algorithms, computational learning theory, grammars, networks, and scoring algorithms. Among 16 submissions, seven were from foreign researchers.
