摘要

The feasibility of using a beam of neutrons for medical radiography or biological research is considered. The chief advantage of neutrons over X-rays is seen to be the new possibility of studying the uptake of many isotopes of high neutron-absorption cross sections. Thicknesses of up to about 3 cm of either tissue or bone might be radiographed with thermal neutrons, the limiting thickness being determined by the harmful effects of radiation to living tissue. For the penetration of greater thicknesses the use of epithermal neutrons is suggested, and particular advantages are foreseen for the use of monoenergetic neutron beams of resonance energies.
