Merging economies, global exchanges, competitive pressures, and cheaper communication gave birth to BPO (Business Process Outsourcing). Today, it is the reigning star. But the butterfly could become the caterpillar in a year or two. Increasing competition, lower telecom costs, greater confidence in the outsourcing model and the age arbitrator of business decisions—bottom line—are combining to push another business model—KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing). Though KPO does not score very highly on 'popularity judge' Google (just three relevant entries on page one), the phrase knowledge process outsourcing does better (seven entries on page one).
