An O-E converter is reported which is characterized by low noise, constant photodiode-bias voltage and wide linear-dynamic range (43dB) properties. A wide frequency bandwidth is also predicted due to the common-base and the emitter-follower transistor configurations employed. The low-noise property is realized by a negative feedback. The constancy of the photodiode-bias voltage is the result of the low load impedance of the photodiode which is connected to the emitter of a common-base configuration transistor. The photodiode is thus capable of accepting strong incident lights without saturating to the extent the transistor operates in the active region.
