Within the framework of a Quality Assurance project of the Hydrographic Service of the Royal Netherlands Navy, the squat of the hydrographic vessels and their sloops is determined by using GPS-OTF techniques. The land based Polartrack system was used as a secondary system. Prior to the squat observations, which were performed at the Calandkanaal near Rotterdam, OTF system tests were executed by using a heave simulator. Both these tests and the actual squat observations gave satisfying results. The squat could be determined at centimetre level precision. From the GPS-measurements, squat-polynomials are defined that give the squat values as function of the speed through the water of the vessel. The Polartrack measurements agree with this model.
