On the validity of approximate distributions arising in fitting a linear functional relationship

A linear functional relationship between two variables may be Fitted by the method of maximum likelihood or by ordinary least squares. Approximate distributions of the angles the fitted lines make to one axis are compared with empirical distributions using simulation techniques
