VLIW microprocessor based on improved VLIW architecture is developed for embedded application. This processor based on 8-way VLIW architecture equips execution units of floating-point calculation, performed 2.1GFLOPS, and media operations, performed 12.8GOPS. To realize performance improvement in the micro-architecture, we adopted dynamic branch prediction, enlarged the cache size and added new media instructions and so on. This paper reports that processor architecture with this improvements and performance evaluation method of this 8-way VLIW processor.
