Macro-, micro- and ultra-structural analyses were carried out at the soilndash;ascocarp interface of different species ofTuber(T.aestivum,T.melanosporum,T.uncinatum) during the organogenesis of the ascocarp. Four external hyphae networks are described: a double network at the upper part of the young ascocarp, hyphal tufts at the tip of the pyramidal scales, and short hyphae extending from the sterile veins of the gleba. This external hyphal system establishes a continuum between the soil and the ascocarp and assures the nutritional autonomy of the subterranean fructification.Key words: truffle (Tuber), ascocarp, hyphae (structure), microstructural analysis.
