The ectomycorrhizae ofCortinarius hercynicusandC.variecoloron spruce are comprehensively described and compared. These species differ in some anatomical, morphological, and chemical characteristics. The literature on anatomical and morphological features of the ectomycorrhizae of species ofCortinariussubg.Phlegmaciumso far described is reviewed.Cortinarius hercynicusis the first species ofCortinariussubg.Cortinariusfor which the mycorrhizae are extensively characterized.
