An unmanned aircraft based on helicopter/airplane/balloon that can provide communications at a fraction of the cost of Conventional Orbiting or Geo-Stationary Satellites can well be called a Poorman's Satellite. Such a system involves carrying of the satellite transponder on board the unmanned vehicle, to provide uninterrupted round the clock communication service that may include voice, data or television signals. This concept is of particular interest to countries like ours with large number of remote areas. The flight altitudes are in the range of 20 km (65,000 ft) and in the case of an airplane the hover diameter could be of the order of 15#x2013;20 km. Such a system when used for civil applications would provide a working broadcast diameter of about 500 km.
