A news peport on my battery-operated television told of a group of elderly patients evacuated from their Louisiana nursing home to a ruralchurch-owned camp near where I live in central Mississippi. The camp, like most of the surrounding area, had been without electric power since Katrina released her fury two days earlier. The patients were stranded there and suffering from the relentlessly brutal heat. The television announcer reported there had been a death at the camp, then pleaded for medical volunteers.
