The literature relating to the chromosome numbers in the genusErigeronhas been reviewed, and all reported numbers are given. The chromosome number forE. brewerivar.porphyreticus(Jones) Cronquist, 2nensp;=ensp;18;E. divergensvar.cinereusA. Gray, 2nensp;=ensp;27;E. glabellusvar.glabellusCronquist, 2nensp;=ensp;36;E. glabellusvar.pubescens(Hook.) Cronquist, 2nensp;=ensp;36;E. hyssopifoliusMichx., 2nensp;=ensp;18;E. quercifoliaLam., 2nensp;=ensp;36;E.simplexGreene, 2nensp;=ensp;27;E.strigosusvar.beyrichii(Fisch.amp;Mey.) A. Gray, 2nensp;=ensp;27; andE. vernusT.amp;G., 2nensp;=ensp;18 are new determinations. Different numbers from those previously reported have been found forE. pulchellusMichx., 2nensp;=ensp;27, andE.strigosus(Muhl.) Willd., 2nensp;=ensp;36. Chromosome counts over a large area of their distribution have been made forE.annuus(L.) Pers.,E. pulchellusMichx.,E. philadelphicusL., andE. strigosus(Muhl.) Willd.
