Some new bimetallic complexes with the formula MUO2(DED)2 M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Pb(II) or 2Tl(I); DED = 1,l-dicarboethoxy-2,2-ethylenedithiolate dianion have been prepared by the reaction of K2UO2(DED)2 and the corresponding metal salts. K2UO2(DED)2 preparedin situand used in the synthesis of the above bimetallic complexes was precipitated as (Bu4N)2UO2(DED)2 for the first time. All these complexes have been characterized by their elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, UV-visible, e.s.r. and infrared spectral studies. The tendency of the anionic dithiolate, UO2(DED)2#x2212;2, to act as a bridging moiety via the chelated sulphur atoms have been explored in the formation of bimetallic complexes. The characteristic ir absorptions show bidentate behaviour of the ligand. Features of electronic and e.s.r. spectra and magnetic moment data suggest square planar geometry around Co(II), Ni(II), Pd(II) or Cu(II) in the heterobimetallic complexes.
