AbstractRecent advances in electron microscopy of polymer systems have produced new structure theories (lamellar versus micellar) and considerable speculation on the nature of synthetic fiber structure. This paper illustrates what can be seen directly on the structure of nylon 66, polyester, and acrylic fibers with high‐resolution and scanning electron microscopy and attempts to relate the structure seen in the complex fiber systems with simpler structure observed in bulk polymer and solution grown crystals. Instances of support for the lamellar and fibrillar theories of structure are note
