Redescription ofCothornobata taeniata(Macquart 1843) n. comb.: sole Afrotropical representative of the Eurybatinae (Diptera Micropezidae)

Calobata taeniataMacquart 1843 is redescribed based on specimens of both sexes from the Indian Ocean islands of R#xE9;union and Mauritius. The species is transferred fromTrepidarioidesFrey 1927 toCothornobataCzerny 1932, a genus of Eurybatinae otherwise restricted to the Oriental and Australasian Regions.Cothornobata taeniata(Macquart 1843), n. comb., is the only species of Eurybatinae occurring in the Afrotropical Region. The generic distribution ofCothornobatais discussed and compared to that ofTelostylinusEnderlein 1922 (Neriidae), which is recorded from the Seychelles and the Afrotropical Region for the first time.
