AN ELECTRIC motor that was originally designed for a hydrogen-fuelled sports car is being redeveloped to power a variety of electric and hybrid vehicles and to generate electricity. Engineers at Oxford University began work on a lightweight, readily manufactured motor for Morgan's LIFECar fuel-cell sports car in 2005 (The Engineer, 10 March 2008). Spinout Isis Innovation has recently received a grant from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) to commercialise it for vehicles and other applications.
