Large optical nonlinearities in a GaAs/AlGaAs heteronhyphen;ihyphen;phyphen;istructure

Lighthyphen;induced changes in the absorption of a multiple quantum well heteronhyphen;ihyphen;phyphen;istructure at room temperature have been measured using a pumphyphen;probe method. Changes in the absorption coefficient in the quantum wells of more than 2000 cmminus;1have been observed with pump intensities as small as 375 mW/cm2. Corresponding changes in the index of refraction of ape;0.02 have been calculated.
