FROZEN FISH: Chilean catch levels last year declined contrary to what was expected with M. gayi landings registering 69 756 MT while hoki registered 62 533 MT. The US frozen fillet market is brisk at the moment with the onset of the lent seasonCHILLED AND FROZEN TUNA: Japan: Tha market for sashimi tuna is still slow with lesser supply. Prices are steady. Spring sales in about to begin. Frozen tuna imports in 2004 increased by 4.35%. WTP: Poor fishirtg, for skipjack continues. Operational costis rising and fishing has become increasingly uneconomical. Oh the other hand, fish prices remain low. JAPANESE SHRIMP MARKET: Trading at the upper level of the distribution chain has slowed down lately due to the depreciation of the yen. Imports are selective too. Short supplies in producing countries keep the market steady. Annual imports of value added shrimp products increased in 2004. US SHRIMP MARKET: US imports rose marginally in 2004 despite the anti-dumping duty threat. Current shrimp prices are firm but imports have slowed down. Producers and buyers are expected to meet at the Boston Seafood Show in mid March.
