A method for the production of a granule inoculant ofRhizobium melilotifor lucerne seed (Medicago sativa) is described. The method enables large scale production of such an inoculant to be considered and is derived from the work previously reported (Fraser, 1966). Modifications have resulted in a granule with a higher initial count of rhizobia and with better survival on storage. An inoculum ranging from 200 000 rhizobia/seed from freshly prepared granules to 2000/seed from granules stored for 6 months at room temperature is possible.
