Rhisomania is the disease of sugar beet that is less tolerable and causes greatest loss in quality. Its typical symptoms can be found on the leaves and root. As an effect of the disease crop and sugar content decrease. Big differences in the sodium and alfa-amino-nitrogen can be related to the presence of the illness, but in can be proved only by ELISA test. Because of the large number of possible ways of spreading it can be supposed that there is only one method to decrease the losses: to grow tolerant types. For this reason we have a new generation of tolerant types, that can reach the high quality level of normal standard types on infected territories. The ombination of the traditional tolerancy and the one produced by gene techniques brings new possibilities to overcome this sugar beet disease.
