Acute carpal tunnel syndrome complicating a distal radial fracture in a patient with a persistent median artery

A 56-year-old woman sustained a displaced intra-articular distal radial fracture due to a fall from standing height (Figure 1). She complained of pins and needles in the radial three digits of her hand shortly after the injury. She denied similar symptoms before this injury. She had altered sensation in the median nerve distribution. Acute carpal tunnel syndrome was diagnosed.
