Almost any material can be put through a screen and turned into a product. Humans are drawn to consistent, fine-grained materials for use in soils. They disdain chunks, unless of course the chunks are consistently chunky, such as bark chips, and they can take their place on the surface for an interesting finishing touch. However, size is not the only criteria as a consistent type of compost material is also essential. Leaves in bark chips, even pine cones, are frowned upon. Also, for those who know what they want, a certain performance is expected from a screened product, consistently. So how do you take compost that has accepted feedstocks from a wide variety of sources, some clean and some not, and sell it to this well trained and discerning public?
