Aloyal reader named Ron recently asked me to discuss material alignment and flow in progressive dies. From the perspective of the die engineer, I think there is a presumption that starting a coil in a progressive die is a given and the ability to do so is taken for granted. This thinking is wrong. So, I ask my fellow die engineering colleagues: Have you ever walked onto the stamping-plant floor and personally attempted to start a coil on one of your dies that was just set in the press at the start of a production run?
