I recently had the pleasure of trying several tablet personal computers from different vendors. You should consider using them in your pressroom. Imagine having your key personnel armed with full-blown computing power in a PC less than 1 in. thick with a touch screen that doubles as a large writing surface. With a tablet PC, your press setters, supervisors and managers could connect wirelessly to the company network and retrieve data to and from machinery, quality stations inventory-gathering mechanisms, miniature global-positioning-system (GPS) location devices for tooling and steel coils and/or blanks, and in-die analog sensors measuring part dimensions. A die setter, toolmaker or press technician could be in front of the press, in back of it or on the side and still have, via the touch screen on the wireless tablet PC, full access to the controls. If more than one of these experts were working on the same project, then all would have the capability to view and exchange information about the machinery and tooling.
