Forming Simulation on the Computer

This month's theme is computer simulation for the press shop. A variety of computer programs or application codes are available today for the metalforming industry. These programs include CAD for designing and machining dies, motion simulation for robots and part transfer devices, statistical acquisition of data, optimum blank nesting, automatic part checking and other applications for sheetmetal stampings.A lesser-known branch of sheetmetal forming simulation is the virtual press shop, where actual forming of the part is simulated in the computer. Several types of forming simulation codes will be discussed next month. While specifics of the codes are different, the general functions are similar.
