Summary.ThirtyPseudomonasstrains representing 13 species were tested for the ability to grow with 14 compounds as sole carbon sources in the following manner: paper discs saturated with 10 solutions of the compounds to be tested were placed on pour plates containing the test organism, ammonium ion, buffer and minerals; the plates were incubated at 30° and the areas near the discs were observed for growth. The results agreed well with reported nutritional patterns. Discs stored at 4° could be used for at least 6 months after preparation. This method is suitable for use by laboratories which only occasionally attempt to characterizePseudomonasspp. since the materials required can either be stored in a way which uses little shelf space or can be made from ordinarily available media component
