Active noise systems are employed in cars to somehow reduce sound vibrations in the interior of the vehicle. However, such systems are complex, and engineers are only beginning to test out control algorithms for active noise systems. Active noise control (ANC) systems counter an engine's booming noises especially when accelerating. Prototype vehicles place microphones in the vehicle. This microphone then feeds back to a control system that has target values for the parameters that must be controlled. In this setup, the computer knows the engine speed and load and then outputs the needed sound pressure level correction.
