Cylindrosporium filipendulaeThuem. was isolated from diseasedSpiraeatimes;vanhoutteiZabel in Tennessee. On the basis of acervulus formation and conidial morphology,C.filipendulaeis transferred to the genusPhloeosporella. Apothecia observed on overwinteredS. times;vanhoutteileaves were determined by cultural methods to be the teleomorph of thePhloeosporellaspecies. Conidia produced in culture by ascospore isolates infected spirea leaves and induced symptoms identical with those caused by thePhloeosporellaspecies. Morphology and development of the teleomorph were compared with those ofBlumeriella jaapii(Rehm) v. Arx (=Coccomyces hiemalisHig.) and found to be quite similar. The new teleomorph is described as a species ofBlumeriella.
