For quite some time now I have felt that I should read about earthquake-resistant design, but was put off by the thought that such a text would be full of complicated equations. When the opportunity to review this book came my way I jumped at the chance - books are so expensive these days and I find that a quick look when in the bookshop is not enough for a serious purchase. It turns out that Ambrose and Vergun wrote Earthquake resistant design my back in 1933. They also have Simplified building design for wind and earthquake forces which is in it's Third Edition, 1995. In fact, there is a whole series of Parker-Ambrose Simplified Design Guides. In my young days, Parker's books, although thoroughly American, were a great help to a struggling student because they set things out so simply.
