I was most interested in the photographic essay of Newton Candish that appeared in the last Observer, especially the carriage photograph on page 226. Car B246, later re-classified as F536, along with its twin sister B247, later F542, was in use as a temporary brake van on the "Jackaroo" alias the Lyttelton boat train in 1947.1 have photographs of them taken by both Hugh Bennett and Jack Mahoney in March-April 1947. Both cars were written off on 16 September 1950 after the then Prime Minister Sid Holland, requested that the boat train be upgraded, which it was forthwith, with AA cars from the Wellington fleet.
