Several techniques have been described for tendon sheath washout in suppurative flexor tenosynovitis. A minimally invasive, two-incision technique for irrigating saline from the A1 pulley in the palm up to the A5 pulley in the finger has proven adequate (Gutowski et al., 2002). There is debate about whether a single operative washout is sufficient or whether continuous post-operative irrigation of the sheath should be done. Evidence suggests the latter is unnecessary if the primary washout is adequate (Lille et al.p 2000).
