SWEDEN is gearing up to introduce automated reading of electricity meters across the country over the next three years. A new law designed to open up energy markets requires that all electricity meters must be read monthly by 1 July 2009. As a result, the utility companies are moving to remote metering solutions, leading to a big upsurge in orders for meters, communications services and back-office software, and some fierce competition among suppliers.
