Andy Hopper is enthusing on the joys of engineering. 'Let me tell you what I'm going to do this summer. I'm going to fly myself and a colleague up to Ellesmere Island at the top of the Arctic. Then we're going to fly around looking at polar bearsand measuring the performance of my Iridium phone on a connection back to Cambridge. Can you imagine anything better?'Er... just possibly but no matter. I may be unconvinced by Hopper's idea of a good time, but an hour of his conversation has done wonders for my faith in the life-enhancing possibilities of his trade.
