The new buildings at St Nicholas School in Shepperton were required primarily to replace a 1930s unit which was structurally suspect and not suitable for modern primary education. At the same time, the governors decided to take the opportunity to put the whole school back under one roof, as it was until the middle of the last century. My predecessor campaigned long and hard for the scheme to be accepted for a government grant. Wintersgill Faulkner was recommended to the governors by the London Diocesan Board for Schools.
