Using On-line Monitors to Improve Performance and Plan Corrective Actions

Avista Utilities uses several on-line monitoring systems at its 466-MW Noxon Rapids project in northwestern Montana. These systems measure many different parameters, such as generator air gap, shaft vibration, magnetic flux, and partial discharge. Information provided by these systems is critical for making decisions about future rehabilitation work, verifying the effectiveness of rehab work, and preventing failure of aging machines.
