Tris(dipivalomethanato) europium is very suitable for the paramagnetic shift in the1H-NMR-spectroscopy of metallocenes, as was shown for derivatives of ferrocene, cymantrene, and benchrotrene. The relative shifts decrease from ferrocene to cymantrene; no complex formation occurs at the metal-CO-groups. In the ferrocene series the method was applied to 1,2-(α-oxotetramethylene)ferrocene (mainly in comparison with 1-tetralon and the corresponding cymantrene and benchrotrene derivatives) and to the stereoisomeric 1,2-(α-hydroxytetramethylene) ferrocenes as well as to the analysis of mixtures of isomers (e.g. the isomeric acetyl ethylferrocenes
