German municipal utilities VSE and its partners have decided to close two hard coal-fired units with a combined capacity of 389MW on 1 January next year.The 283MW Ensdorf unit 3 and the 106MW unit 1 at the same site, in the southwest German state of Saarland, are earmarked for permanent closure, VSE and German steel companies Saarstahl and Saarschmiede said today.VSE has operated unit 3, which started commercial operations in 2001, for the two steel companies since 2011.
