Maximisation of revenue has become increasingly challenging for broadcasters in today's economic climate. As a result, organisations are under continued pressure to reduce expenditure in order to maintain profitability. The streamlining of internal business operations or 'improving workflow' has therefore, become a key consideration in controlling operating costs. As the media industry continues its transition from analog to digital, improved workflow practices will bring gains in productivity, organisational efficiency, enhanced process control and tighter integration of systems. This will result in sustainable competitive advantage. It is appreciated across the board that these clearly identified benefits must be realised through use of the correct tools. However, the reality of an improved workflow, where metadata is transferred effortlessly between departments, can be more difficult to execute within the multi-directional information flow of today's broadcast environment.
