The term ‘quality of life’ is defined as the result of objective circumstances of life and subjective perceptions of patients. Health-related quality of life is a dynamic concept which changes during an adaptational process interacting with illness condition during the course of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. In a review on the research in this field, it is shown that quality-of-life assessment may be an important adjunct to the evaluation and treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
