摘要

A landlord violated the Fair Housing Act by refusing to rent to an unmarried woman with two children, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled, reversing the judgment of the HUD administrative law judge (ALJ). (White ν. HUD, No. 05-1252, 2007 WL 286303 (7th Cir.), February 2, 2007). Gertie Wooten refused to rent an apartment to petitioner Sheila White after White told her she had two children and was not married. White filed a complaint with HUD, claiming that Wooten violated the Fair Housing Act, 42 U.S.C. Section 3604(c), by discriminating on the basis of familial status.
