Flash back to September 1,1979, at Hollander Stadium in Rochester, New York, where a young Jay Blakesberg watches in awe as his heroes, the Grateful Dead, ramble through a trademark set of shimmering laid-back rock. Using his father's Pentax, Jay―only 17 at the time and fresh out of high school―moves closer to the stage and fires off a few frames of the band. Later in his mother's basement, he watches as the images come to life in the developer. There's guitarist Jerry Garcia, his already graying long hair blowing in the wind. Bassist Phil Lesh, perhaps spotting Jay taking his picture, breaking into a broad grin. And Bob Weir, intensely focused as he strums through a song.
