Quantitative measurement and mapping of user-level QoS for audio-video transmission

Quality of Service (QoS) can be defined at each protocol layer, but user-level QoS is the most important of them. This report proposes how to measure user-level QoS for audio-video transmission with two psychological methods: the method of paired comparisons and the law of comparative judgment. Moreover, we discuss two methods for translating application-level QoS into user-level QoS (i.e., QoS mapping) by multiple regression analysis. Experimental results show that a user-level QoS parameter that represents human subjectivity for a audio-video stream can be determined with the proposed method. Also, it is shown that the user-level QoS parameter can be estimated from two application-level QoS parameters.
