AEUR70 million project to replace the two steam generators (SG) at Doel 1 required the creation of openings in the primary and secondary containment for the SG exchange operation. It was just the second time that approach had been used for a SG replacement in a nuclear power plant in Belgium. The project was carried out by two GDF Suez subsidiaries, Electrabel, a leading energy provider and Tractebel Engineering, an established engineering consultancy. GDF Suez group invests an average of EUR 100 million each year in its Belgian nuclear power plants.
