Over the years, the readership of Chemistry of Materials has given much attention to organic π-Functional Materials, that is, electro-active and/or optically-active materials based on delocalized it-electron systems. As a result, Chemistry of Materials will devote one of its early 2011 issues to this area. The it-Functional Materials Special Issue will follow others that have highlighted topics of broad interest to the materials chemistry community: Nanostructured Materials (1996), Sol-Gel-Derived Materials (1997), Inorganic Solid State Chemistry (1999), Organic-Inorganic Nanocomposite Materials (2001), Organic Electronics (2004), Templated Materials (2008), and Materials Chemistry of Energy Conversion (this year).
