摘要

I'm amazed by what a booming industry construction and design is, not only in Australia, but across the globe. There isn't a day that passes when a new construction team turns up near my office in the Eastern Suburbs to start work on yet another project. But this pales in comparison to the amount of activity I saw on my recent trip to Thailand, i visited many of the areas devastated by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and the locals haven't wasted any time in rebuilding. I stayed on magical Phi Phi island, which was absolutely decimated by the big wave. Of the 5,000 people on the island at the time, 3,000 were killed and very little remained standing except for a few giant trees that could tell an incredible tale or two. But during my trip in July of this year, it was hard to imagine this was the same place I saw decimated on television. The people of Phi Phi, determined to get on with their lives and keen for tourists to return, have rebuilt with gusto - with little outside help or aid.
