摘要

abstract_textpThe main focus of this article is on the biochemical diagnosis in the event of suspected shunting and in particular on bile acids, catabolites of cholesterol that are synthesised by the liver and excreted by the bile route. Using the clinical case as a basis, the article confirms that it is important to evaluate the concentrations of the serum bile acids (SBA) in both the diagnosis and the monitoring of portosystemic shunting. At present, the evaluation of preprandial and postprandial concentrations of the serum bile acids is considered to be a sensitive biochemical test and indicative of the presence or the absence of portosystemic shunting (PSS)./p/abstract_text
