This paper adopts both static and dynamic analyses to examine thenecessary integrated procedures for the design of spindle-bearingsystems, with modeling and analysis of these systems being based onthe finite element method. The study further addresses thesub-structure procedures and the application of a commer- cialpackage dynamic solver. Within this study, the effects of designparameters on static and dynamic performance of spindle-bearingsystems are analyzed in order to establish the requirement for designmodifications, and the paper proposes a number of examples, alongwith a set of guidelines for the design of machine tool spindles.
