A 6-year-old child underwent a Tc-99m MAG3 dynamic renal scan because of recurrent urinary tract infection. An ultrasound performed 2 weeks before revealed only a right-side hydronephrosis. The summed early image showed a right kidney that seemed to be cut in half. Imaging during voiding showed reflux in the right pelvicalyceal system. The composite image formed with superimposition of these two frames clearly showed that the reflux affected a functionally excluded lower half of a kidney with unknown complete duplication of the collecting system.
