"Nrothin' but net" is a familiar expression from the fast food commercial where the luminaries of basketball competed to see who could make the most outrageous 3-pointer. The luminaries of the computer world are often echoing the same phrase today, alluding to their belief that the communication protocols, networking methods, and data storage algorithms used on the Internet are the only ones with a future. They are saying that companies should not be planning on using conventional spreadsheets, word processing documents, and databases for storing their data, but rather should be migrating towards using Internet tools for absolutely everything they write. No expert on such matters, I still can't help noticing that the Internet alphabet soup is indeed becoming pervasive, with new word processors supporting "HTML" and new databases promoting "TCP/IP."
