Conversion of beta-ray dose rates measured in air to dose rates in skin

Some results of recent experimental measurements of the contribution of back-scattered beta radiation to the dose at a tissue surface are presented. Measurements have been made with two independent techniques, one involving extrapolation ionization chambers, the other calcium sulphate thermoluminescence dosimeters. The measurements were made in contact with and at 10 and 30 cm. from plane90Sr-90Y sources.
